Concussions are the result of acceleration-deceleration forces applied to the brain, and are a common occurrence in contact sports or sports involving speed. Concussion may result from direct impact or sudden rotational or shear forces transmitted to the brain, causing axon (nerve) dysfunction. A number of neurological functions may have been affected and symptoms can vary considerably, therefore a thorough evaluation should be conducted by a medical professional.

Treatment often involves vestibular rehabilitation exercises (balance and postural stability, eye and head control) as these sensitive sensory systems, which are managed by the brain, are often affected. Treatment will also likely involve the neck.

If you are booking this type of treatment for the first time, please refer to our online resources

An initial treatment is 1 hour, for your subsequent appointments please check with your physiotherapist as to whether you require 30 minutes or 1 hour for follow up sessions.

n need of physiotherapy services and unable to come into the clinic? Back In Action Sports Physiotherapy now provides services online through Tele-Rehabilitation, also known as Telehealth.
Physiotherapists provide a wide range of services, many of which are perfectly suited for online appointments. From the first assessment, your history tells us where to look and what is most likely the cause of your problem. By watching you move, we can see what joints aren’t working their best and what muscles could be doing a better job. We can give you exercises to teach those muscles and joints what to do and how to do it. On top of it all, the education we provide allows you to have a better understanding of how your body works.
We are able to provide physiotherapy services for orthopaedic, pelvic floor and concussion and vestibular rehabilitation.
How does it work?
For Telehealth appointments we use Physitrack, a physiotherapy-specific online platform used for delivering physiotherapy services throughout the world. Physitrack uses encrypted communication to ensure your appointment is safe and secure.
When you book your appointment, you will be emailed a confirmation of your appointment time and an intake form. Please ensure your intake form is filled out well before your appointment time so your physiotherapist can be well prepared for the appointment.
At the time of your appointment, your physiotherapist will email you a link to join your appointment online. Click that link, follow the prompts and away we go!

What do I need on my end for this?

Your smart phone, tablet or computer with a webcam. As long as you have a camera, a microphone and access to the internet, we can provide Telehealth services. The link will direct you to Physitrack’s app - Physiapp.
How do I pay for Telehealth services?

All Telehealth appointments require a credit card be on file before your appointment starts. This can be done through your online profile. Your credit card will not be charged until the time of your appointment.

Can I use my extended health insurance?

Some extended health insurance covers Telehealth while others do not. While we do direct billing for in person appointments, we do not do direct billing for Telehealth appointments.

What about ICBC and WSBC appointments?

As of March 15, 2020, both ICBC and WSBC do not have a policy surrounding Telehealth. However, ICBC has indicated they may approve Telehealth on a case by case basis.
